Hockey fever catches up with Amritsar. We have another good news of another school taking up hockey. Now it is the turn of Bhawan’s SL Public School to get the feel of hockey.

A special assembly to promote hockey was conducted with complete ferver on the premises of Bhavan’s SL Public School on September 8, 2008. Prof. Pramjit Singh Randhawa, was the resource person who requested Bhavanites to ignite with the passion of Hockey. On this occasion, he also spoke eloquently on hockey. He left the audience gazed by acquainting them with the facts the countrymen are forgetting the national game hockey — which is the greatest asset of the country. He also regretted that we don’t remember the birthday of Dhyanchand who was the main figurehead in India winning the first ever Olympic gold.

He briefed that Hockey has lost its real status in Olympics also. The root cause behind it is that the schools don’t accord priority in their sports plan. “Therefore, I show my deep gratitude to Principal, Ms. Anita Bhallawho, who is committed introduce Hockey in the prestigious school. She promised to equip a nursery of Boys of Class VI, VII.

The morning show also contained the theme of Game Hockey. The students came on the stage in the guise of Ajit Pal, Pargat Singh, Dhanraj Pillay, Dhyan Chand, Saniya Mirza and many other leading sports persons. They enacted the role of Chak De India. Thus, the importance of the national game was drilled into the minds of the assembled students.

Principal Anita Bhalla also convinced with the idea of the promoting hockey in the school. She assured the students that the best infrastructure, equipment and coaching staff will be provided to the players. She felt with these inputs, the students will be motivated to adopt the game in a better and sustained way.

Sports teachers Pawan and Meenu Kalia also pitched in, showing their great interest and assurance to implement hockey in the school more vigorously. One toast was certainly made the name of the hockey where it should count – school.

Hockey is our national game.Since years it has been neglected and moreover the authorities are not taking the initiative to raise its previous glory. So promoting it thru seminars in schools, colleges is a strong and vital step. And we all appreciate ur efforts.

stick2hockey.com is doing a wonderful job while promoting hockey.I would like to appeal to all the hockey players through stick2hockey that not only enjoy reading stick2hockey but also do somthing to promote hockey which is our national game.I very humbly would like to share my views that in INDIA that is a cricket obsessed country is having very technological sports arena.Schools & colleges, our media, our govt.,corporate world, film industry, everyone is trying to promote cricket that is not a olympic sport. also on the other side,if india tries the same in the field of hockey,we can hope an olympic medal in hockey. JAAGO INDIA JAAGO. O INDIA VADESHI KHEL CRICKET KYUN JANOON HAI TUMHARA,HOCKEY JAB RASTRA KHEL HAI HAMARA,chak de e-mail to all O-YAARA,JAAGEGA YEH EK DIN MERA INDIA SAARA.BE PROUD TO B AN INDIAN,BE PROUD TO BE A HOCKEY PLAYER AND A HOCKEY FAN…!!!!!

Hockey is a wonderful game which involves action, fun etcc..its a fast pace game and not a slow game like cricket which is a complete waste of time, duration is the biggest factor against the game.it’s not that sporty all the way.Cricket is for some closeminded ppl who havent experience how other games like HOCKEY OR OTHR SPORTS is enjoyin’…watchin cricket take’s ur whole day & ur not able to do anything….it has killed all other sports in our country…we lag in every other sports only due to cricket..all of the youth is focussed on this silly game n doesnt want to take up any other sport.Promotion of hockey shud b there by various institutions, companies, govt, youths etc so that we can achieve equality in all sports…
PEACE..!!

Hockey is our national game but still its lacking behind as far as cricket is concerned. Most of the Indians do not know at least 10 hockey players of India. Market is developing in the Indian Economy and it is Cricket which became the icon, touching great heights while Hockey is pushed to floor from its position. In reel life, Bollywood star Shahrukh acts as a hockey coach in his film (Chak De!) but buys Kolkatta team of IPL team in real life!

Hockey is the national game of Indians and its current plight is the symbol of dissipation of Indian culture. We taught hockey to this world and we are today out of the Olympics. Cricket was the symbol of slavery and English man taught the game to us for their entertainment only.
well…its time for our youth to take initiative to promote our national game.and moreover “Prof. Pramjit Singh Randhawa” is doing a wonderful job in this regard and will surely make hockey equally popular in india.Surbhi arora,BCA-1,DAV College

According to me Hockey is the game of “Pride” and “Standard”,it cannot be played in streets, lanes, terrace of buildings like cricket.Cricket is not a Game,it a way to Earn money.Hockey inspite of being National Game is not so much popular, where as Cricket being an outsiders game is liked and is promoted by Indians.People have more craze for cricket as compared to other games like Football,Basketball,Table Tennis and the most important hockey, which is to shameful. So,I appeal the readers and young youth not to neglect hockey but you should come forward and fulfil your responsibility towards national game as the time demands it.

Hockey being our national game is not given that importance that is being given to the national interest i.e.cricket. Cricket is just a game to earn money but hockey is the game of pride. Hockey has lost its importance infact we the Indians have lost the spirit of hockey which needs to be rejuvenated. We should chare for our national game and step forward to promote it by giving lectures in schools and colleges and media should also support us in promoting the game of pride. it is pitty on our part that we people dont even know the name of hockey players like Dhyan chand who is the famous player of hockey and the son of india. So it high time to raise your voice for hockey. “CHAKE DE HOCKEY”.
“leave cricket and go for hockey”

Amritsar is called ‘Guru Nagari’the city of Golden temple and Durghiana mandir will soon be called ‘HOCKEY CRAZY CITY’ like chandigarh because in the Amritsar citynow schools are taking trust in Hockey where ever Hockey nursery will be produced.Hockey will shine.I very humbly request my friends, school going and college going have the ring tones of CHAK-DE-INDIA or HOCKEY DUNGHE RAKH KE’ so ever whoever calls you will keep in mind the Shahrukh’s movie “CHAK-DE-INDIA” which has done wonderfull job to promote HOCKEY. AMRITSARIO Love the National Game Hockey which had given glory to India and cpy to all friends.

Well d same comment is posted by meh in Asr public school column also ..but i guess most of ma frnds gave their views here in dis column so thot to paste d same post of mine here also…

It wud be rudent to talk about Hockey in India is treated in comparision to Cricket. Hockey..d national game of india…dun make fun of national game atleast..by neglecting it..jus spendin ol ya tyme on cricket…Is there any1 who cud say that Hockey is treated on par? No way, n more so bcos of comercialisation of cricket, a money spinning game for all, players, boards and people with influence. Y not there b tide to rise a voice to give equal importance and make other sports like Hockey to flourish like cricket by giving them good infrastructure, good avenues, best coaches, exposures and breeding? I think the main debace lies in partiality of the powerful n vested hands. Changing national games to the money spinning one will do wat good?Wake up Indians ..still we r Lagging behind fom many nations ….Still derez tyme …a huge call to each n every indian …make d spirit of hockey in ya soul…n let pple c Indians have preserved their culture still nw in dis modern age also….

During the early twenties, hockey was the most natural bastion of Indians. Dhyan chand was the undisputed king of world hockey.India won all the hockey titles at the Olympics held from 1928 to 1960.The old days remind us of the golden nostalgia, which was very pleasant and glorious for our hockey. But at present our hockey-the national game has lost its fame.Everyone is running after cricket-the game of earning money and moreover its not the game of Olympics. Then why we being the Indians have forget our hockey game? India must regain her lost glory. We should be proud of international celebrities like Dhanraj Pillai,Dhyan Chand,Aslam Sher Khan,Baljit Singh Saini and many more who have done India proud. So our government and media should support our hockey the pride of India. Moreover,we the students should also boycot the cricket and start playing the hockey. So pick up the hockey stick and say chak de to hockey and lets bring that lost fame and golden period of history back.

Hi girls! hockey in Australia has regards women hockey team is known in the world. Why we Indian girls donot take interest in hockey? I think we should follow Australia and Netherland. Have you seen Chak De India film sixteen smart girls with shahrukh khan? Shahrukh Khan did wonderful acting in this film so,we should understand the feelings of film writer Mr.Jaideep Sahini and to make hockey popular among women.Cum on Nikhita,Surbhi,Priya,Sunaina,Karishma,Vidya let’s play hockey.

Now a days, hockey is one of the least played game by the youngsters.Hockey has lost all his name as well as fame. Our punjabi teacher Mr.Paramit Singh Randhawa is bringing revolution in promoting hockey in DAV College. He encourage us to give equal importance to hockey.I don’t know about other classes but in our class we started watching hockey. Now we know the names of different clubs of hockey and their players like Dhyan Chand,Dhanraj Pillae,Aslam Sher khan and many more.Actually cricket is a curse to hockey as well as other games. The government is also supporting cricket instead of hockey. But the hockey players are not able to fulfill the basic requirements of their game.At last,I cannot force our youth to play hockey but can suggest to save their national game from losing its complete importance. So lets play hockey and bring back its fame.
