International Hockey Year Book Author K. Arumugam has been honoured by the Surjit Hockey Society in recognition of his contribution towards promotion of hockey.

Hon’ble Minister for Public Works and Education, Punjab Government, Sardar Pratip Singh Bajwa presented s a certificate and a purse of Rs.3100 during the half time of the 23rd Surjit Singh hockey tournament final on 15th November 2006.

Surjit Hockey Society has been organizing an annual All India Grade I tournament to perpetuate the memory of late Surjit Singh Randhawa, India’s 1982 World Cup captain, at Jalandhar (Punjab) since more than two decades

According to Working President of the Society L.R. Nayyar, the Surjit Hockey Society has been honouring a person other than from the stock of players, whose contribution to the promotion of hockey is noteworthy.

“Arumugam’s article on Major Dhyan Chand from one of his books ‘Great Indian Olympians’ is in the Central Syllabus (Central Board of Secondary Education). Thus millions of our young generation get to study the greatness of Dhyan Chand”, Nayyar said. “He has authored 12 books so far. These original works are appreciated by the hockey community in India as well as outside India”.

Accepting the reward, Author K. Arumugam said, “I am pleasantly surprised at this unexpected honour where I just went to cover the competition. This will not only motivate me to continue author and publish books, but also popularize them”.
