India Bank On Ram; Korea Look To Nam And Lee

Hyderabad: After emerging unscathed from the big fight against Pakistan on Wednesday, India will be once again banking on their dragflicker Diwakar Ram for one final
flourish when they take on Korea in the title clash on Friday.

“I wish I could have Diwakar Ram in my team,’’ said Korean coach Lim Jung Woo. “It will be a fight between Ram and our dragflickers Nam Hyun Woo and Lee Yong Kuk. Both the teams are playing well but we know how to beat India,’’ Woo said.

Indians began on the slow note in the tournament, but were at their best against Pakistan. They will be going into the final with loads of confidence, hoping to maintain the momentum against Korea.

Gurwinder Singh Chandi and SV Sunil had a great tournament so far. But it remains to be seen whether they would be able to control the midfield again.

“We have our plans to check the Indians. Chandi and Sunil are the key for India. If we can stop them, then Diwakar will not get a chance to wield his magic,’’ said Woo.

India had defeated Korea at the eight-nation junior tournament earlier this year. But the Koreans are a much improved side now, according to Diwakar Ram.

“The final is just like any other match for us. We will play our natural game and are not bothered about the result. I am enjoying my luck on this ground. I hope it will continue for one more match,’’ said Diwakar Ram.

While India solely depend on Diwakar Ram, Koreans have two specialists in Woo and Kuk. Indians too tried Innocent Kullu but he was off target. However, India had defended well throughout the tournament and if the midfielders play well in the final, the hosts are favourites to defend the title.
