Hyderabad, July 18: The dissolved Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) president KPS Gill on Friday accused the international hockey federation (FIH) of breach of contract for entrusting the responsibility to host the 2010 World Cup in New Delhi to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
After a meeting with the IOA president Suresh Kalmadi and ad-hoc committee members, FIH said it has entered into an agreement with the IOA to organise the mega event. “How can IOA hold such a big event when Indian Hockey Confederation (IHC) is not going to exist and Hockey India is going to be formed?,” Gill questioned, adding “this meant the new body will have no role to play.”
FIH president Els van Breda Vriesman on Friday said IOA has proposed to rename the IHC as Hockey India but an official confirmation in this regard will be taken at the IOA General Assembly in November. Gill pointed out that with the court case against the IHF’s dissolution still pending. “How can ad-hoc committee by very definition be able to sign an agreement with the international body without caring for the law of the land. They are only to run the day-to-day affairs,” he stated.
