Hyderabad: India’s hockey selection committee chairman Aslam Sher Khan wants more administrative powers for the selectors so that the game can be made truly professional.

Khan said that the selection committee, comprising five Olympians, possesses enough knowledge to improve the standard of the game in the country. “We need a result-oriented concept that can change the face of Indian hockey and only people with knowledge about the game can do it,” he said.

He is also a member of the ad-hoc committee, which is now running Indian hockey after dissolving the KPS Gill-led Indian Hockey Federation (IHF). “As of now we are only concerned with the selection of the team. We are all former players and if we are given more administrative powers, we can put a system in place and I am confident that within four years we can put Indian hockey back on track.

“There is no point in just keep on functioning and indulging in blame game. If India does not perform well, it is the selectors who will get the stick. More questions are asked of us because we are all former players. We have to realise that unless there is a proper system in place, India cannot move forward.” IANS
