Hyderabad: POSITIVE MOVE IOA takes steps to revive

THE Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has decided to conduct a brainstorming session with prominent hockey personalities on July 18 here to make a master plan for reviving Indian hockey.
Disclosing this to the media here on Sunday, Mohd Aslam Khan, who is the secretary general of the ad-hoc committee of the Indian Hockey Federation, said about 30 to 40 hockey Olympians will be participating in the one-day session, which will be chaired by IOA president Suresh Kalmadi.

“We are serious about restoring the past glory of Indian hockey. The meeting, after eliciting the various opinions of the hockey stalwarts, will make a road map for Indian hockey in a more professional manner,” he said.

Meanwhile, Khan, who is also the chief coordinator and convenor, announced the fixtures and draws of the 6th Junior Asian men’s hockey Cup that will be held at Gachibowli Hockey Complex from June 11 to 18.

India are placed in Pool A along with Japan, Malaysia and Singapore. The pool comprises Bangladesh, Korea, Oman and Pakistan. The matches start at 3 p.m. The matches would be conducted on league-cum-knock-out basis. India are defending champions, which they won in Pakistan four years ago. The winners of this event qualify for the World Championship that is expected to be held in New Delhi in 2010.
