The Hockey India League (HIL), which began on January 14, may lead three to four-fold increase in the market of hockey goods. At present, the hockey market makes around Rs 60 crore, including Rs 10 crore from exports.
With several local manufacturers from Punjab been selected as the official suppliers of various HIL teams, many are expecting a big boom if the HIL turns out to be a success.
The president of Sports Forum and owner of the Rakshak brand of hockey sticks, Sanjay Kohli said his firm was supplying kits to Ranchi Rhinos team.
“HIL will not only boost the game but the industry as well. We are expecting a huge boom during and after HIL. With international players participating in HIL, the game will also promote hockey internationally,” he said. Rakshak is among over 10 major hockey manufacturers in the region.
T K Sports of Jalandhar has also been selected to supply sports kits to three teams — UP Wizards, Mumbai Magicians and Punjab Warriors. Rajan Kohli, Managing Director of T K Sports, said the kit they are supplying included track suits, travelling kit, playing kit, bags and shoes.
