Indian women lose to South Africa

Indian women went down 1-2, fighting to South Africa in the round-robin match of Four Nation Hockey Tournament played Saturday overnight at Parana, Argentina.

India required draw to qualify for the finals against World Champion Argentina but couldn’t 1-2 overcome the high ranked South Africa.

South Africa led 1-0 at half time. Kate Woods scored first goal in the 20th minute.

In the beginning of second half India tried to make a strong comeback by playing some attacking shots. With the goal scored in the 38th minute by Jaspreet Kaur through penalty corner, India equalized the score 1-1.

But in the 45th minute South Africa’s Marsha Marescia scored another goal by making the score 2-1. South Africa scored both their goals by penalty corners.

India will now play against Ireland for the bronze medal tomorrow.
