Its coffers time for Indian hockey, as Cairn India join as co-sponsor

New co-sponsor for men and women national teams of Junior and Senior categories.

Close on the heels of Hero, the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturers, endorsed four-year partnership with FIH, comes the news of World’s Fastest Growing Oil Major, Cairn India, joining big time hockey.

Gurgaon based Cairn India, which accounts for 25% of India’s domestic oil production, has declared its association with Indian national hockey team as its co-sponsors for both men and women.

Sahara was the main sponsor of all teams of both sexes so far, and Cairn officially comes as co-sponsor.



However, its only Cairn’s logo that will be prominently feature on the jersey’s of national teams, which clearly indicates the trend which way — and which company’s way – the sponsorship tilt is taking place.

Indian men’s team captain Sardar Singh and Women’s team captain Ritu Rai joined HI and Cairn India bosses to unveil official jerseys.

Its actually coffers time for Indian hockey, with the latest Hockey India League turning out to be a one-hundred crore worth brand, where five companies bought and run Franchised teams.

The FIH which foresaw the money worthiness of Indian market has roped in reliable Hero for next four years, each year India hosting one of its major tournament.

With Cairn in its fold, it is gathered the company will play big role in the coming years in grass root development of hockey as well.

Cairn India, the world’s fastest growing energy company announced in New Delhi today that it will co-sponsor India’s national hockey teams for a tenure of three years. This association, for a sum of several crores per annum, will cover the senior and junior national men and women teams.

Cairn India announced the three year association with Hockey India in the presence of Hockey India officials and the captains of the men and women hockey teams.



The senior Indian Men and Women Hockey teams will be seen sporting the Cairn logo for the first time when they will take part in the Hero Hockey World League Round 2 tournaments to be held at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi from 18th to 24th February 2013.

Cairn India’s association with Hockey India reinforces its commitment towards securing a positive future for the nation. Cairn has decided to join forces with the national game of the country and plans through several initiatives to encourage the sport amongst the new generation.

Announcing Cairn India’s co-sponsorship, Hockey India welcomed the partnership. Narinder Batra, Secretary General Hockey India said: “We welcome Cairn for joining Hockey India and being part of the journey to revive hockey in the country. This association will further boost the game and help the sport reach new levels. Hockey India thanks Cairn India for coming on board to become our partner in this exciting journey.”
