Pak Club to take on P&S Bank in Surjit hockey finals
Jalandhar, Oct 24 (UNI) Javed Hockey Club, Gojra (Pakistan) will take on former champions, Punjab and Sind Bank, Delhi in the finals of the Silver Jubilee Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament at the Olympian Surjit Singh hockey stadium here tomorrow.
In the semi finals today, Javed Club edged out holders, Indian Oil, Mumbai by 3-1 while Punjab and Sind Bank got past another Mumbai outfit, Air India by a 2-1 margin.
The Indian Oil-Javed Hockey Club match witnessed good hockey and was played at a vrey fast pace, with the oilmen taking the lead in the 30th minute of the game following the conversion of their first penalty corner (1-0). However in the last minute of the first half, the Pakistani club equalised through Mohammad Arif who scored a field goal (1-1).
In the second half, both sides waged a ding dong battle for supremacy. The Pak-team shot into the lead in the 21st minute when international Kashif Ali converted his teams second penalty corner (2-1). In the 57th minute of the game Kashif Ali increased the lead by converting another penalty corner (3-1) to put the game out of reach for the oilmen.
In the other semi finals, Punjab and Sind bank scored through Jarnail Singh (6th minute) and skipper Mandeep Singh (53rd) minute to make their 13th entry into the finals of this tournament.
Olympian Dhanraj Pillay was the goal scorer for Air India (13th minute).
