Jalandhar: Three Pak teams for Surjit hockey meet

Jalandhar, October 14 Three Pakistan teams will be participating in the silver jubilee edition of the Surjit Hockey tournament to be held here from October 18 to 25.

Javed Hockey Club (Gojra), Crescent Hockey Club (Sialkot) and Independent Hockey Club (Sargodha), all recommended by the Pakistan Hockey Federation, have confirmed their participation in the event. The three teams have been seeded directly into the quarter-final league stage.

Among the Indian teams, defending champions Indian Oil, last year’s runners-up Indian Airlines, Punjab and Sind Bank, Namdhari XI, Border Security Force, Air India, Rail Coach Factory, Bharat Petroleum, Punjab Police and South Central Railways will be participating. The tournament will be on knockout-cum-league basis and all the matches would be played under flood lights.

The winners’ purse will be Rs 2.25 lakh while the runners-up will get Rs one lakh.
