Bihar holds Eastern Sector to a draw in opening tie

JAMMU, July 23: The opening tie of 17th Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Inter-Sector Hockey Tournament between Bihar Sector and Eastern Sector ended in a draw at K K Hakhu Stadium, here today.

Leading by two goals (3-1) Bihar Sector at the end of first half, Bihar Sector conceded two goals after the teams changed sides to allow Eastern Sector make it a 3-3 draw in the league round.

Played an attaching game in the first half, Bihar Sector could not maintain their rhythm after the breather.

Earlier, the four-day knock-out event was declared open by Brig Prahlad Singh, who is Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Doda Range.

The chief guest was accompanied by Additional DIG, Y K Mathur and host of other senior officers. Among those civilians present were Sports Officer (J) of the State Sports Council, Krishan Sharma and manager K K Hakhu Stadium.

In his inaugural address, the chief guest called upon the participants to display true sportsman spirit during the competition. Encouraging the teams to put in their best, Brig Singh exhibited confidence that the players will do country proud with their excellent performance at the international level.

In all, 13 teams representing different sectors of the CRPF are taking part in this national event of the Force. The tournament will end with the holding of final, followed by the valedictory function on July 26.
