Jr Asia Cup W: India finish fourth, will miss next Jr World Cup

Rani Rampal led India lost not only the bronze medal match but also the next Junior World Cup.

India lost to Republic of Korea in the Bronze medal match of the 7th Women’s Junior Asia Cup by conceding to two late goals. Namita Toppo scored the first goal of the match for India, midway through the first half.

However, The Republic of Korea team equalized at half time, as Baek Eeseul converted a penalty corner.

India again got the lead as Lilima Minz converted a penalty corner in the 38th minute. Korean team spent much of the second half trying to score against a strong defending side of India.

With just few minutes left for the match to end, Lee Minji scored the equalizer. Cho Hye Jin scored another goal within a space of only two minutes.

Thus, India lost the golden chance to be in the next Junior World Cup, with only top three from here will have entry.

Indian Junior Women team with the fourth ranking in this tournament have failed to qualify for the Junior World Cup 2016 to be held in Chile from 26th November- 4 December, 2016.

The top three teams of the tournament – China (Gold), Japan (Silver) and Republic of Korea (Bronze) have qualified from the Asian Continent to compete in the Women’s Junior World Cup 2016.

Its a mighty fall for the girls who only won bronze at the last edition at Monchengladbach.
