Indian Junior girls started their Junior World Cup campaign in style, giant-killing Australia 3-2 at Boston in the opening day.
India got its fourth and last Penalty Corner in the 69.29 minute-second, which it grabbed it with both hands.
India is in Pool ‘D’ along with Australia, Belarus and the hosts United States. The hosts today defeated Belarus 3-1 and will be meeting India in the last match on Thursday. India can virtually move to medel’s round today itself when it meets Belarus.
Ten minutes after Australia equalized India 2-2 at the 60th minute, Manorama Devi converted a penalty corner at the stroke of hooter to get India the valuable three points.
Indian defence played a great game, managing to thwart as many as ten penalty corners, while the defender in chief Manorama managed to put a goal through a PC in dying minutes.
Australia took the lead in the 31st minute with Casey Eastham converting a penalty corner.
India went in for the lemon break with this goal against them.
On resumption, in the 45th minute, Poonam Rani equlized with a field effort, and eight minutes later Monika Bardan gave the lead for India, again a field effort. India led comfortably 2-1 till 59th minute
Marmie Hudson scored a field goal in the 60th minute, leaving the rest of time a tense affair.
India emerged the winner in those tense ten minutes, with Manorama Devi punching in the last minute penalty corner.
India will now meet Belarus today before a day’s rest on Wednesday
