Jr Women’s Champ’ship: Patiala, Chandigarh record big win

Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh), 28 April 2015: The third day of the 5th Junior National Hockey Championship 2015 (Women) ‘’B’’ Division marked astounding wins for the participating teams against their respective opponents at Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh) today.


The first match of the day started with Hockey Patiala who registered a win against Hockey Andhra Pradesh by 12-2 in Pool A. The Pool B match proved to be fruitful for Chandigarh Olympic Association who comfortably registered a victory over Hockey Puducherry 11-0.


In the first match of the day in Pool A, Hockey Patiala thumped down Hockey Andhra Pradesh by a huge margin of 12-2 with the help of Santosh Kaur’s spectacular five goals and Deepika’s brilliant hat-trick. Patiala dominated through-out the match and scored goals in the regular intervals. Patiala earned a penalty corner in the 7th minute of the match and Captain Rajni Bala perfectly converted it into the first goal of the match. After three minutes (10th minute), Patiala earned another penalty corner and this time Lovedeep converted it effectively into the second goal of the match. Leading by two goals, Patiala kept on charging on the opponent’s side and in the 18th minute, Santosh Kaur scored a stunning goal to increase the lead by 3-0. Continuing the attack, Lovedeep and Deepika scored two back-to-back goals in 25th and 32nd minute of match and extended the lead to 5-0. In the 38th minute, Santosh managed to sneak into opponent’s half and scored her hat-trick goal to take the score-line 6-0. After conceding six goals, Andhra Pradesh showed some resistance and countered-attack on opponent’s half. Andhra earned two back-to-back penalty corners in 40th and 45th minutes and Varalashmi and Mallwswari Thalari converted both the penalties to reduce the margin by 2-6. After the goal, Patiala came back strongly and Santosh scored two more goals in 48th and 51st minutes to take the score-line 8-2. Maintaining the pressure on Andhra Pradesh, Deepika and Santosh scored two goals within a minute (55th and 56th minute) as Deepika converted a penalty corner effectively and Santosh scored the 10th goal with an ease. Deepika completed her five-goal streak in 65th minute, when she out-foxed opponent’s defenders and hit the ball hard into the goal-box to take the score-line 11-2. Skipper Rajni scored the 12th goal in the 69th minute of the match and helped her team to register a thumping victory over Andhra Pradesh.


Another match of the day witnessed a breathtaking performance by Chandigarh Olympic Association who battered Hockey Puducherry with a massive goal difference of 11-0. The match proved to be a one- sided affair for Chandigarh Olympic Association who did not allow Hockey Puducherry to bank upon any scoring opportunities. Through Manju’s endless efforts, Chandigarh Olympic Association managed to earn a total of 7 goals leaving the opponents stunned. Maintaining the scoring momentum, Shweta’s attempt garnered the fifth goal for Chandigarh Olympic Association in the 35th minute and this did not stop here as Suman went high on spirits and contributed three goals for her team in the 5th, 31st and 62nd minute all though field efforts. This marked an incredible victory for Chandigarh Olympic Association over Hockey Puducherry 11-0.
