Jr Women’s (Div B): Manipur thrashes Tripura 19-0

Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh), 27 April 2015: The second day of the 5th Junior National Hockey Championship 2015 (Women) ‘B’ Division saw four exciting pool matches as they battled it out with an aim to escalate their positions in the points table. The first match of the day started with Hockey Patiala who pocketed a win against Vidharbha Hockey Association 13-0 in Pool A. In the second match, Manipur Hockey blanked Tripura Hockey 19-0 in Pool D. In Pool B, Bengal Hockey Association thrashed Hockey Puducherry by a huge margin of 7-0 and Hockey Gujrat edged past Hockey Madhya Pradesh by 2-1.

In Pool A, Hockey Patiala in a one sided match against Vidharbha Hockey Association registered a huge win of 13 -0. Not wasting any time Hockey Patiala was immediately into business as when Harpreet Kaur struck through a brilliant field goal in the 1st minute of the match. This was followed a penalty corner getting converted in the 7th minute as Captain Rajni Bala ensured that the scores are doubled for the team. Continuing their attack on the opponents Hockey Patiala registered its third goal in the 10th minute and taking the score to 3-0. Before the end of first half, Hockey Patiala ensured that they increased the goal margin further as they added two more goals in the 22nd and 25th minute and the first half scores read 5-0. Increasing the momentum of attacks in the second half, Hockey Patiala kept adding goals to their tally in regular intervals. The team scored four goals in a time span of five minutes coming in the 41st, 43rd, 45th and 46th minute leaving the opponents stunned. Hockey Patiala already leading the game by 9-0 added four more goals before the end of the game and won 13-0.

In Pool D, Manipur Hockey ended the game against Tripura Hockey on a high as they went on to slam 19 goals, while even ensuring that the opponents did not open their accounts. All the goals by Manipur Hockey was scored by Lanleibi Chanu, Lanchenbi Chanu and Soniya Devi. It was Lanleibi Chanu’s eight individual goals allowed Manipur Hockey win the game with a huge goal margin. Immediately at the start if the match, Manipur Hockey attacked and 3rd and 7th minute saw two quick goals as Soniya Devi and Sarita Devi capitalized on the opportunities in the D. This was followed by Sarita Devi again seen in action in the 17th minute as she scored her second individual goal. Next minute the score card was 4-0 when Lanchenbi Chanu scored through a field effort. Just before going into break, Lanleibi Chanu added one more to the team’s goal tally and taking the half time scores to 5-0 in their favour. Right into the second half, Manipur Hockey started from where they left and goal No. 6 was scored in the 32nd minute, a field goal by Soniya Devi. Two minutes later another brilliant field goal was scored by Lanchenbi Chanu leaving Tripura Hockey stunned and frustrated as they were unable to stop the opponents’ onslaught. With 7-0 on the board, Manipur Hockey slammed another 12 goals and before they announced a 19-0 win over Tripura Hockey.

In Pool B, Bengal Hockey Association thrashed Hockey Puducherry by a huge margin of 7-0 with the help of Kaberi Pradhan’s brilliant hat-trick and Sabana Khatoon’s brace. Bengal dominated through-out the match and Kaberi led the charge with her two back-to-back goals in 11th and 21st minute of the match. With the thumping start, Bengal’s Madhushree Tudu dribbled past in the opponent’s defence-line and scored a spectacular goal in the next minute (22nd minute) to increase the lead by 3-0. In the 29th minute, Sabana sneaked into opponent’s half and sent the ball into the goal-box to take the score-line 4-0. Kaberi came back again with full force and scored her hat-trick goal in the 56th minute of the match. Inspired by Kaberi’s hat-trick, Sabana charged with full speed and scored the sixth goal for her team in 58th minute. With the aggressive attacks, Bengal earned a penalty corner in the 63rd minute, which was perfectly converted by Sathi Dolui and took the score-line to 7-0.


B):
In the last match of the day, Hockey Gujrat edged past Hockey Madhya Pradesh by 2-1 in a Pool B clash. Gujrat’s Urvi Shah scored the first goal of the match in the 2nd minute and gave an early lead to her team. Madhya Pradesh team counter-attacked on Gujrat side and managed to earn a penalty corner in the 19th minute. Madhya Pradesh Captain Pooja Kushwaha effectively converted the opportunity into a goal and equalised the score-line 1-1. After a neck-to-neck tussle between two teams for the winning goal, Gujrat got the success in 38th minute when they earned a penalty corner and Maitri Ramwala hit the ball hard into the net to score the winning goal. With this stunning performance, Hockey Gujrat defeated Hockey Madhya Pradesh by 2-1.
