Junior players and State bodies get funding from HI

Hockey India will give each men and women junior international players Rs. 10,000 while the State Hockey Associations of HI will get an annual grant of Rs. 5 lac to develop hockey in their region.

HI has decided to give Rs 5 lakh each to all its State Associations to be used to organize Senior, Junior, Sub-Junior level tournaments and importantly school level tournaments.

A HI press release claims this is the first time in the history of Indian Hockey that State Associations get fund from the parent boady.

Announcing the grant Hockey India Secretary General Mr. Narinder Batra said: “Though as a game hockey is popular in the country, this grant will help to encourage more youngsters to come and play Hockey which will popularize the game at grass-root level”.

In the HI Executive Board also decided to give financial support to a pool of 33 junior men and 33 junior women players. Each player will get Rs. 1,20,000 per annum which is equal to Rs. 10,000 per month payable each quarter. The shortlisting of juniors from 48 to 33 is likely to be done in early June 2012, and payments expected to start from July- September quarter.

The decision regarding Annual Retainership fee for senior men and women players will be taken shortly. The board authorized The Secretary General Mr. Narinder Batra to finalize the same.
