Junior Women’s (Div B): Odisha, Mainpur, Chandigar

Rajnandgaon, (Chhattisgarh), 30 April 2015: The fifth day of the 5th Junior National Hockey Championship 2015 (Women) ‘B’ Division witnessed the top teams displaying the finest strategies and field plans to perk up their position in the pool table.

The first game of the day saw Hockey Gangpur- Odisha registering a thumping win over Goans Hockey 8-0. Another exhilarating performance by Manipur Hockey concluded the game in their favour as they defeated Hockey Jammu & Kashmir with a 9-0 margin. In Pool B, Chandigarh Olympic Association thumped down Hockey Gujarat by a mammoth margin of 22-0 in another one-sided match.

In a one sided match, Hockey Gangpur Odisha won the match 8-0 against Goans Hockey. The proceedings for Hockey Gangpur Odisha started in the very 1st minute as a field effort Janhabi Pradhan gave the team the quick goal. Janhabi scored again in the 6th minute as a brilliant effort by her in the D marked the team’s second goal. Leading the game 2-0, Hockey Gangpur Odisha’s Jiwan Kishori Toppo successfully added two more goals in the 8th and 13th minute, taking the team’s lead to 4-0. Hockey Gangpur Odisha continued with similar play as they attacked and put pressure on the opponents. Pramanjali Toppo scored in the 32nd minute, further denting the efforts of Goans Hockey looking at making a comeback. The team added three more goals in the 39th, 54thand 65th minute before they took the win of 8-0 over Goans Hockey.

It was a delightful session for Manipur Hockey in the third clash of day as they blanked Hockey Jammu & Kashmir 9-0 and won the match. Manipur Hockey was in form from the beginning of the game which was evident from their first field goal in the 4th minute coming from Soniya Devi. It was yet again Soniya Devi who was seen in action as she slapped into the net another excellent field goal in the 8th minute and raised the team spirit. Hockey Jammu and Kashmir were seen fighting for that first goal of theirs but the strategies and the confident players in the opponent team overpowered them. It was again at very short intervals that Manipur Hockey won another two goals which were both penalty corners by Merry Devi who did no mistake in converting them back to back in the 13th and the 18th minute. The first half of the game itself was completely dominated by Manipur Hockey which was leading by a motivating score 4-0. Hockey Jammu & Kashmir made all efforts to bounce back in the game in the second half, however this could not result into scores. Maintaining the consistency and enjoying the team work, Manipur Hockey earned their 5th goal in the 49th minute which came from Sarita Devi who sneaked into the opponent’s half and smashed a field goal. Merry Devi proved to be an asset for the team when she struck her 3rd goal in the 55th minute by successfully converting another penalty corner. The remaining few minutes witnessed the praise worthy talent of Gita Rani Devi who scored three field goals 58th, 59th and 66th minute which was an incredible contribution driving the team towards victory with a massive score 9-0

In a Pool B match, Chandigarh Olympic Association thumped down Hockey Gujarat by a mammoth margin of 22-0 with the help of Iram’s six goals, Suman and Manju’s four goals each. Starting with an aggressive game, Suman scored two goals (2nd & 5th minutes) and Shweta scored a goal (8th minute) in the first 9 minutes of the match. In the 10th minute, Jyoti Rani converted a penalty corner and took the score-line to 4-0. Maintaining the domination, Manju, Shweta and Suman scored back-to-back goals in 15th, 22nd and 26th minutes of the match respectively. Followed by their inspiring goal-scoring streak, Manju and Iram scored two more goals in 31st and 33rd minutes to take the score-line to 9-0. Chandigarh earned a penalty corner in the 34th minute and this time Kamlesh converted it into the 10th goal for the team. Match’s show-stopper Iram scored three back-to-back goals in just three minutes (38th, 39th & 40th minutes), followed by Sujata’s brilliant goal in 43rdminute. Iram again scored a goal in 45th minutes followed by a spectacular brace in 48th and 49th minute to take the score-line to 17-0. As the match was being played at Gujarat’s half, Chandigarh’s Kiran and Rosy scored two goals in 50th and 52nd minutes respectively. Iram scored her sixth goal in the 54th minutes, followed by Sujata and Suman’s second and fourth goal of the match in 56th and 69th minutes respectively. With the last minutes goals, Chandigarh routed Gujrat by 22 goals in a one-sided match.
