MB to revive hockey team
Kolkata: Mohun Bagan on Wednesday decided to revive their hockey team this coming season. Assistant secretary Srinjay Bose will be in charge of setting up the team, it was decided at the first executive committee meeting of the Anjan Mitra-led administration following its win in the elections.
“It’s very good news for Bengal hockey ,” BHA secretary Gurbux Singh said. “The BHA is planning an indoor tournament later this month and I hope Mohun Bagan will take part in it,” he added.
The former Olympian also hoped that the city’s other two big teams — East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting — will follow suit. “Nothing can be better than seeing the three big clubs fielding their sides on hockey fields. I still feel once we get an astroturf — which is expected to be laid out at the SAI Eastern Centre soon — public interest in the game will grow again,” he maintained.
Meanwhile, the Mohun Bagan team defeated Budge Budge Football Academy 9-0 in an exhibition match.
