Logo row: HC asks IOA to submit copy of constitution
Times of India:
NEW DELHI: The court case over the Sahara logo controversy has taken an interesting turn with the Kolkata High Court asking the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to present before the court a copy of the association’s constitution.
The development came after two lawyers, appearing on behalf of the suspended Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) president KPS Gill, requested the court to make the dissolved IHF a party to the case.
They raised objections over sacking of Gill and argued that the adhoc committee was not entitled to get any sponsorship money from Sahara.
Leisure Sports Management had filed a petition on behalf of Sahara against the non-use of company’s logo on players’ kits during the Gold Cup in Chandigarh in February as also during some training camps.
Justice Indira Banerjee then asked IOA to bring its constitution at the next hearing on April 20 so to ascertain who is entitled to get the money.
Members of the adhoc committee Aslam Khan, AK Matoo and Rajiv Mehta besides IOA secretary Randhir Singh, who appeared before the court in a contempt case relating to the logo controversy, were given waiver from personal appearances.
The four submitted a letter from chairman of the adhoc committee Suresh Kalmadi, seeking exemption from personal appearance in the wake of the ongoing general elections, which was granted.
