NORTHERN Railway, Lucknow Division team registered an impressive 6-0 win against Red Eagle Club in their match of the District Hockey League2008 at KD Singh `Babu’ Stadium here on Wednesday.
The NR team exercised an upper hand over the opponents from the very onset of the play. Rajneesh succeeded in breaking the ice in the very 4th minute of the play to impart a 1-0 lead to the Railway team.
Three minutes later Prashant netted a goal to consolidate the lead further.
In the 27th minute Manish sounded the boards to make the half-time score 3-0.
The second-half was no different a story.
The Red Eagle Club team simply failed to break through the Railway defence. NR forward Prem struck two goals while Daud scored apiece to pave the way for a 6-0 win for the team.
In all, NR was awarded seven penalty corners (PCs) out of which it capitalised on one such opportunity. Red Eagle Club got five penalty corners.
The other match of the same tourney played between Sports College and ‘Babu’ Society proved to be a real thriller in which the former emerged champions by a 2-1 margin.
No goals could be scored in the first-half despite several good attempts from both the sides.
Dodging defenders intelligently, ‘Babu’ Society forward Vijay Thapa scored a goal in the 31st minute of the play. However, Suraj scored the equaliser just two minutes later.
Making full use of a welltimed move, Durga scored a goal in the 43rd minute of the play to make the score 2-1 in favour of Sports College which was maintained till the final moments of the play.
While Sports College was awarded four penalty corners, `Babu’ Society was given two penalty corners. However, both the teams failed to make use of them.
Thursday’s Fixtures:
North Eastern Railway vs United Club (at 2.30 pm); ‘Babu’ Society vs Police Radio (at 4.00 pm). Chess trials UNDER the auspices of Lucknow District Chess Sports Association (LDCSA), the trials to select the sub-junior (under-11) boys’ and girls’ Lucknow team will be organised at its Munshipulia located office in Lucknow from 5.00 pm to 7.00 pm on August 7.
