THE state level trials for admission to state government-run sports hostels commenced at the state capital here on Thursday. About 800 aspirants turned up for the cricket trials.
While the trials in hockey and football are being organised to fill in the vacancies which still exist after the declaration of the admission results, in cricket fresh trials are being organised as the trials organised earlier in this game were cancelled by the UP Sports Directorate.

The trials are also being organised in those in which hostels have been established from this year.

Talking to The Indian Express, Deputy Director Sports Anil Kumar Banoda informed that about 800 boys turned up for cricket trials from various districts of the state. In football 130, in kabaddi 125, in basketball 65, in badminton 17, in table-tennis 15, in handball 40 and in judo 49 and in hockey 125 players turned up for the state trials.
Due to the morning rains, the trials commenced pretty late in the afternoon and utter chaos prevailed at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium where hundreds of young cricket trainees could be seen enquiring about the start of the trials.

When contacted, chairman selection committee for cricket Samrish Somal informed that around 800 boys reported for the trials and the physical tests involving standing broad jump, medicine ball and shuttle run of a good number of boys was done on day-one of the four-day cricket trials.

Director Sports (UP) Shankar Lal Jiaswal said that trials were being organised in a smooth manner and he had “not received any complaints so far.”

The district trials in the above sports and archery were held on July 21 and 22 in various districts. The state trials in all the above sports except archery are being organised at different venues in the state capital from Thursday. The state trials in archery are being held at Barabanki, sports department officials informed.
