Ludhiana : Malwa start with win

MALWA ACADEMY, Ludhiana began their campaign in style thrashing Mehta Gurukul Academy, Doraha 5-0 in boys’ under-16 years age group in the Punjab State Weekend Hockey Tournament being organized by the Punjab Sports Department at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) here today .

Malwa Academy took only five minutes to take lead with Johanpreet struck the board in the 6th minute.

Nirmalpreet Singh doubled the lead with a beautiful goal in 16th minute.

Before the end of first half, Malwa Academy scored one more goal through Amarjit Singh in 38th minute. In the second half too, Mehta Gurukul Academy looked out of sorts and Gurbej Singh of Malwa Academy scored two quick goals in 45th and 46th minute to take his team to a 5-0 victory.

In another match of the day, played between Faridkot A and Mata Sahib Kaur Hockey Academy, Jarkhar, the former emerged victorious by the margin of 3-2 in under-14 age group.

Jarkhar boys dominated throughout the first half and scored 2 goals through Jaspreet Singh and Gurbir Singh in 18th and 38th minute.

But in the second half the tale was totally different. Faridkot lads unleashed an array of attacks and finally managed to cut through the de fense of Jarkhar in the 40th minute through Gurbhej Singh. Two minutes later, Jagjeet Singh scored second goal for his team to level the score 2all. Haramanjit Singh struck in the 48th minute to steer Faridkot to a narrow margin 3-2 win.

The third match, played between Faridkot and Bathidna in the under16 age group, proved a one sided affair as the former emerged victorious 11-0.

The last match of the day was played between Bahadurgarh XI and Paatran. Riding on the hat trick by Amandeep Singh, Bahadurgarh XI scored a facile 7-0 win over Paatran.

Mandeep Singh and Tejinder Pal Singh chipped in with two goals each.
