Sangrur Academy sail into semis

SANGRUR ACADEMY and Singhu Academy, Delhi, won their respective league matches to advance into the semifinals of the ongoing 9th All-India Mata Surjit Kaur Hockey League at the Mata Sahib Kaur Stadium, Jarkhar, on Sunday.

Singhu Academy, Delhi, defeated Dalla Brothers-XI, Moga, 4-1 in the first match of the penultimate day of the league.

Balwinder Singh scored two goals while Pardeep Kumar and Ashok scored one goal each to help their team win the match. Jatinder Singh scored the lone goal for Dalla Brothers-XI, Moga.

In the second match, DAV Academy, Chandigarh, outplayed Jagtar-XI, 4-1.

The winners have already secured their berth in the semifinals. The third match was played between Sangrur Academy and Ludhiana district in which the former emerged victorious by 2-1. Harpreet Singh and Narinder Singh scored goals for Sangrur Academy while Charanpreet Singh struck for Ludhiana district.

In the last match of the day, Jarkhar Academy defeated Jalandhar district 32.

Sumit scored two goals for the winning team while Prabhjeet Singh contributed one goal. The two goals for the loser team came through the sticks of Palwinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh.
