An Olympic and two World Cup gold medals adorn Australian MARK KNOWELES’ trophy cabinet. Kookaburras icon, defender and captain’s retirement in 2018 left a void in the team that will be difficult to fill.
An FIH Player of the Year (2014) and Rising Star (2007) awardee the Rockhampton-raised Knowles collected 312 caps while scoring 29 goals for his country.
Knowles made his debut in 2004 playing South Korea in the Azlan Shah Cup and was a member of the 2004 Athens Olympic gold medal winning team.
He also strode the top podium at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups in New Delhi and The Hague.
Knowles played club hockey for HC Rotterdam in the Netherlands and Queensland Blades at home and also had a stint with Punjab Warriors in the Hockey India League.
