Dr Vece Paes happy for Indian hockey

Dr Vece Paes, a familiar face in Davis Cup circles, is also known as the lucky mascot of the team. India invariably win when the affable doctor is around.
Leander Paes’ father was also a member of India’s hockey team that bagged the bronze medal in the 1972 Munich Olympics. The story goes that Leander was conceived at the Games!
Dr Paes an avid follower of all sports was particularly happy with the Indian hockey team’s recent success at the Asian Champions Trophy in Ordos, China, where they beat arch-rivals Pakistan 4-2 via tie-breaker.
“I was delighted to learn that India won the inaugural Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament in China. It is a fantastic start for new coach Michael Nobbs. (Goalkeeper) Sreejesh made some wonderful saves in the tie-breaker. It’s a pity the Indo-Pak final was not shown live on TV,” said Paes Sr.
