Mumbai hockey shines in new lights

By: Sundari Iyer

Mumbai Hockey Association organised first match under new floodlights at the Mumbai Hockey Stadium (MHA) after three years on Saturday.

Though the fans did not throng the stadium as expected, the 200-odd crowd created enough buzz. Olympians and Mumbai stalwarts too were excited. For the record, Air-India thrashed Union Bank of India 8-2 to enter the final of the Mumbai Hockey Championship.

Former India captain Dhanraj Pillay, who turned up for Air-India, said: “It was great playing under floodlights after such a long time. Earlier, there were floodlights, but it wasn’t good.

I am glad that Mumbai has an international standard stadium that can host matches under floodlights,” the 43-year-old told MiD DAY.

Olympian Viren Rasquinha also gave the thumbs up to the new floodlights.
