MR Negi’s book is about to hit the stands

Mir Ranjan Negi, goalkeeper of Indian national hockey team in the early 80s, has come out with his biography.

The paperback book is entitled as ‘Mir Ranjan Negi: from gloom to glory’.

Indian cinema’s top actor Shah Ruk Khan, who acted as coach Kabir Khan in the hugely popular Chake De! India, has given an appreciative foreword.

The book is expected to be released shortly, probably in Mumbai, where Negi resides nowadays, at the hands of Shah Ruk Khan or any other dignitary.

Negi says this book is his simple life retold.

On the cover one can find the following: ‘The inspiring real-life story of a sports man’s triumph against all odds’.

Negi was born in Garwal area of Uttaranchal, and played many international tournaments including the ill-fated 1982 Delhi Asian Games, where Pakistan defeated India at a whopping 7-1 score.

Negi says the reasons behind the poor show are dealt with in length in the book

Negi was the goal-keeper coach when India won the men’s Asiad gold in 1998, and women their Asia Cup and Afro-Asian Games gold five years later.

Negi was involved in giving hockey training to the Chak De! India Girls

Negi nowadays spare time between his job with Customs and acting in a film.
