CRMD clinch nine-goal cliffhanger

CENTRAL Railway Mumbai Division (CRMD) handed a second straight defeat to a young Khalsa

College Sports Association (Khalsa CSA) from Matunga, as they edged them out 5-4 in a thriller in the Mumbai Hockey Association (MHA) Senior Division League at the MHAMahindra stadium in Churchgate on Wednesday.

After getting drubbed 6-0 by SAI in their opening encounter, the Khalsa boys displayed a much better performance against their senior opponents.

Khalsa CSA opened the scoring, with Manish Nair slotting in a well-measured direct hit by Hardeep Singh in the 25th minute. But Amanpreet Singh then converted two back-to-back penalty corners to put CRMD firmly in the lead as the teams went into the break.

The Khalsa CSA boys then stunned CRMD, as they pumped in three goals within four minutes to run to a 4-2 lead. Rohan Mhatre scored a brace, while Cornilius Fernandes struck the third goal. But with goals from Sudhir Kumar, Sanjeet Kumar and Mohd Amin, CRMD rallied back to win in the end.
