U-17 hockey team lost in final of div-level inter-school tourney

Fr Agnels Multipurpose School, Vashi girls finished runners-up in the under-17girls Nehru hockey divisional-level inter-school tournament held at Bombay Hockey Association (BHA), Churchgate on Wednesday. The girls, who represented Thane district lost to Durello Convent High School of Bombay suburbs 3-0 in the 30-minute-long final tie. All the three goals of the match were scored during the first half of the match. Even as the Agnelites tried to equalise the score in the second half, they couldnt convert their moves to goals. “We failed as the girls fall short of stamina in the second half. There were some open chances which they couldnt convert in to goals. We need to work on endurance apart from techniques and skills,” stated school coach Surinder Singh Ahluwalia.

However, defeat in the final match is not demoralising the Agnelites and they will be soon commencing preparations for the District Sports Office (DSO) Inter-school under-17 and under-14 girls hockey tournament scheduled next month at Fatima High School, Ambernath. “We are looking forward to the upcoming tournaments. We will try to utilise the experience of senior girls in the under-17 team to practice the under-14 players. Most of the under-14 team members are new to the game but they are highly enthusiastic about the sport. Thus, we expect good performance in the both categories in the forthcoming tournaments,” added Ahluwalia.
