High-five for Willingdon Gym

WILLINGDON Catholic Gymkhana hammered Nobody’s Sport Club (NSC) from Dadar 5-0 in a Mumbai Hockey Association (MHA) First Division League encounter at the Mahindra MHA stadium in Churchgate on Sunday. Kids XI meanwhile failed to turn up for their encounter against Companeros SC.

Willingdon started slow and the teams went into the break, with the Catholic Gymkhana leading 1-0 as crafty NSC did not allow their opponents to run away with the game. Sumit Bhatkar fired from the first goal from close range of a cross-ball from the axis in the 18th minute. NSC striker Sunil D’Sa was well manned by the Willingdon midfield, and failed to make an impact.

The floodgates seemed to open in the second-half, as Anil Ambekar added the second goal in the 35th minute with a solo effort. Pramod Shingade then made it three for Willingdon with a deflection goal.

Vinod Shingade then tapped in a rebound to stretch his team’s lead to 4-0. Vijay Panchal then rounded up the tally as he successfully converted a direct penalty corner for Willingdon.
