It would take some time for Indians to promote other games: Pillai
MUMBAI, Sep 7 (UNI): It would take some more time for change in the mind-set of Indians towards games other than cricket, ace hockey player Dhanraj Pillai opined today.
Speaking to mediapersons after receiving the Youth Baton Relay heading for Commonwealth Youth games 2008, to be held in Pune next month, at the Gateway of India here today, Pillai said it was an indication of great achievements by Indian youths ahead, when Abhinav Bindara won gold and Vijendra Singh and Shushil Kumar won bronze for the country.
People have started realising that India has a treasure of talents — “only the need is to search and promote them, ” he said.
Pillai, expressing his belief in the new generation’s talents, said, “There are numbers of potential talents who can bring many more medals — may be 25 or 50 medals — for the country, but they are not availed with proper facility, neither from their family nor from the Government.”
“Though sports, other than cricket, was never promoted much in the recent past, I believe with these significant achievements by youngsters, parents as well as the government would heed over it and good talents in the country will come up,” he said.
