INTER-ACADEMY TOURNAMENT

Mumbai: Riding on a Rnjodh Singh brace, Punjab and Sind Bank Hockey Academy (New Delhi) overcame a stiff resistance to down Springdale Hockey Academy (Amritsar) 5-2 in the u-19 All-India Inter-Academies hockey tournament at the BHA Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate, on Tuesday.

Punjab who kept their opponents on their toes the whole while, drew first blood after Ajay Kumar converted an indirect penalty in the fourth minute itself. Springdale managed to keep Punjab and Sind Bank down for the next 30 minutes.

However, after the change of ends the floodgates opened. First it was Lakhwinder Singh who came to party.

He slammed the boards through an indirect penalty in the 41st minute. From hereon end it was all about the Punjab side. Jasjodh scored twice in a matter of five minutes (both field goals) and then Jasjeet Singh added the winner the Punjab, while Rupinder Singh struck twice for the losers.

This victory takes the Delhi to the semifinal. In the last two stage, the Punjab side will meet SAI (Lucknow), who found themselves in the semis after Ashish Bayal Hock ey Academy pulled out of the tournament.
