NATIONAL SPORTS DAY INVITATION HOCKEY TOURNAMENT FROM AUG. 25
Mysore, Aug. 24- The National Sports Day Celebration Committee, Mysore will be conducting a Invitation State-level and District-level Hockey tournament in memory of the “Hockey legend Dhyanchand” on the occasion of his birthday celebrations at the University hockey grounds here from August 25th to 29th.
A total of 52 teams will be taking part in the tournament. In the Invitation tournament for High School Boys 10 teams will be participating. Teams from Gulbarga, Bellary, Gadag, Mangalore, Bagalkot, Hassan, Ponnampet, Tellicherry, Padiyad, Raichur/Dharwad will be seen in action. The matches will be played on a league-cum-knock-out basis.
A total of 11 teams will be taking part in the District-level tourney in the Boys section and the matches will be played on a knock-out basis. Teams from Cauvery HS, Marimallappa’s HS, SRKVS, DPIRS, Demonstration HS, Baden Powell Public School, St. Mathias, Farooqia HS, Govt. HS, Hansoge, Saligrama and Chamarajanagar will be seen in action.
In the College section, 13 teams will take part in the men’s section and 5 teams will be seen in action in the women’s section. Matches will also be conducted for Higher Primary Boys and girls sections. Attractive cash prizes are in the offing for the winners in the Invitation tournament along with trophies.
The matches will be played at the University grounds and a five-day carnival ambience is in the offing at the University grounds campus. The tournament will be inaugurated by MLA S.A. Ramdas, at the University grounds here on Aug. 25 at 10 am.
