Abdul ’tricks SFS into semifinals
Nagpur: Alfaiz Abdul scored a brilliant hat-trick as St Francis de Sales School (SFS) blanked Jingle Bells High School 3-0 to book their semifinal spot in the Under-14 Inter-School Hockey League match at the Hislop College ground here on Thursday.
Abdul drew the first blood as early as in the 5th minute to help SFS gain a lead which they maintained till half time.
After the change of ends, Abdul in his solo run dribbled the ball past two defenders to double the lead for SFS in the 29th minute. The talented forward completed his hat-trick in the 48th minute from a leftwing move.
In the semis, SFS will face St John’s High School, who defeated St Michael’s School 3-1 via tie-breaker.
Rahul Kore gave St Michael’s School lead in the 9th minute via a fine move with Gagansingh Roka.
Making most of their second penalty corner, Somesh Bamdekar levelled the scores for St John’s School in the 19th minute. As both the teams were locked 1-1 after the regulation period, tie-breaker rule was applied. In the penalty shoot-out, Anshul Bodele and Saket Tembhurne converted their strokes, while St Michael’s High School players wasted their chances.
Shivkumar Narvare scored a brace as Railway Janmandal High School edged out Dinanath High School 3-2 to book their place in the last four.
Rohan Kaithwas put RJMS ahead in their first attacking move in the 2nd minute. Six minutes later, Shivkumar made it 2-0 with a superb solo effort from the right flank to help RJM School take a handy 2-0 lead at the breather.
After the lemon break, Dinanath High School bounced back and reduced the margin to level the scores thanks to a goal each by Rohan Ghumde and Jitendra Sharma.
However, Shivkumar had a different story to tell, as he in his solo effort from the centre smashed the winning goal for Railway Janmandal in the 31st minute.
Vimaltai Tidke Convent got the better of Swaminarayan High School 1-0 via tie-breaker after a goalless regulation period. Nilesh Jalan scored the match winning goal making good use of his penalty stroke.
VT Convent will face Railway Janmandal High School for a place in the final.
