RJMS enter quarters with win over Modern

Nagpur: Railway Janmandal High School kept their no loss record intact with a 3-1 win over Modern School, Koradi Road on Sunday at Hislop College ground. With seven points from three outings, two of which resulted in victories and a solitary draw, the Railway school booked the quarterfinal berth of the Under-14 Inter-school Hockey League.

Fresh from a hat-trick he scored in the previous game, Shivkumar Narvare again played the pivotal role in Railway Janmandal’s win scoring a brace. A shrewd move, of shifting Shivkumar to forward line, paid instant dividend with the in-form player sounding the board in the 11th minute through a solo effort to give Railway Janmandal 1-0 lead. It remained the only goal to be scored till the half time.

The change of ends proved lucky for Modern School as Yash Kapur drew the parity for them. Dribbling past two defenders, Yash scored the equaliser from the left flank in the very first minute of the second half.

But it didn’t take long for Railway Janmandal to once again gain the upperhand. Rohan Kaithwas’ strike from a pass off Shivkumar in the 32nd minute put them in 2-1 lead.

Shivkumar made most of the penalty corner that came railway Janmandal’s way in the 40th minute to complete individual brace and his team’s 3-1 win.

In another encounter, Vimaltai Tidke Convent snatched a 1-1 draw from Saraswati Vidyalaya to qualify into the last eight, thanks to their better goal average.

After a barren first half, Parkh Shivhare drew the first blood for Saraswati in the 35th minute. Executing Yagya Tiwari’s pass from the left, Parkh sounded the board. VT Convent’s forward initiated an all offensive play which helped them score the equaliser. In a goal mouth melee in the 46th minute, skipper Naman Nagrare netted the equaliser.

After a break of three days quarterfinal matches will resume from Thursday.
