Third win for Pragmatic

Nagpur: The teenage trio of Sameer Sheikh, Amir Sheikh and Deepak Gautam scored goals with ease to propel Pragmatic Club to a thumping 10-0 victory over Vidarbha Blues and stormed into the quarterfinals of the Vidarbha Hockey Association’s ‘B’ Division Hockey League at Hislop College ground here on Saturday.

While Sameer struck four goals, Amir and Gautam slammed three each to thrash their hapless opponents. At half time, the winners led 4-0.

Surprisingly, Pragmatic took 14 minutes to strike their first goal but once Amir opened the floodgates, goals came at regular intervals. He added two more in the 22nd and 48th minutes. Amir’s elder brother Sameer sounded the boards twice in each half to swell the tally. Gautam swung into action late in the match but once he found the target in the 42nd minute, the promising striker added two more before the final hooter.

The in-form State Reserve Police Force recorded their third win in succession when they outclassed VT Convent 8-2 thanks to a brilliant brace each by Rahul Mehakare and Nilesh Chatap. The other goal scorers for the cops were Atul Talkhande, Badal Gaidhane, Ritesh Harne, Ashish Deshmukh, Rajesh Kumare and Amit Kulmate.

In another one-sided outing, Ajni Sporting Club made light work of Nagpur Wanderers. Snehjeet Saxena, Zubair Khan, Akash Chorewar, Nitin Dubey and Rajkumar Jha netted a goal each as Ajni won 5-0.
