Meanwhile, speaking of Chak De!, ? here’s something more about the player, coach, dancer and man behind the film — Mir Ranjan Negi. It now tran spires that Negi is a writer too. The former goalkeeper and coach of the Indian hockey team has penned his memoirs — called From Gloom to Glory — highlighting the glorious and the not-so glorious periods of his life. The gloom being the 1982 Asian Games hockey match which India lost to Pakistan and the nasty whispers it triggered about Negi’s game. The glory returned when he coached the men’s hockey team that won a medal at the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games and the women’s team that got the gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2002. The ex-coach had his brush with glamour when Chak De! India became a huge hit. And that he can shake a leg became apparent when he came on a reality dance show on TV. At 50, it’s Chak de! for Negi.
