Vibrant as ever, purposeful forever, the Delhi based Nehru Hockey Tournament Society, has done it again.

It has recently honoured two contemporary hockey personalities.

In a simple but impressive function on Monday, it felicitated Sardar Singh and Harendra Singh for their individual achievement, of the former getting the prestigious Arjuna award and the latter Dronacharya award, given for sporting and coaching excellence, respectively.

Both awards are eagerly awaited annual selections; Sardar and Harendra got their due this year. The awards have been presented to them by none other than president of India, Pranab Mukherjee, himself on 29th August this year.

Augst 29th is birth anniversary of hockey legend Dhyan Chand, which is also declared as National Sports Day.

Both Sardar and Harendra were personally present to receive the award at the Russian Cultural Centre, New Delhi.

Sardar Singh was given a purse of Rs.51, 000 while the coach got Rs.11,000. Harendra added his personal contribution of Rs. 5000 and presented the both to Andrea Thumshrin, German lady transforming a village into a hockey hive.

Kukoo Walia, Secretary of the Society, compered the program.

The Society in the recent past honoured Dilip Tirkey on him being elected Member of Parliament, and it has so been a tradition.

Both Sardar and Harendra profusely thanked the Society for the gesture.
