Olympic silver medallist Joe Antic breathes his last
Rome Olympics silver medallist and 1958 Asian Games centre-half Joe Antic died yesterday 10.40 PM in a hospital in Mahim, Mumbai.
He was 90.
He is survived by son William and daughter Rita. He had lost his wife in 2011.
Joe is a great footballer and one of the nine sons of a migrant refugee from Burmah (nowadays Myanmar).
Antics also toured East Africa and Europe with the senior team in the late 1950s, had retired from Western Railway in the mid-1980s.
He trained the Oman national team for the 1982 Asian Games in Delhi.
He was born in Secenderabad, where his migrant father finally settled.
His brother Gerry Antics too played hockey for Indian Railways.
