INDIAN HOCKEY has found a talented drag-flicker in Diwakar Ram. His utility to the side was evident when he helped the team win the Junior Asia Cup last year. His next aim as captain of the Indian colts’ team is to win the Junior World Cup being jointly hosted by Singapore and from Malaysia June 7. HT caught up with the young hockey star during a training session on here Wednesday .

Excerpts:

How good were the recent exposure trips for you?

They were very beneficial. Exposure trips since winning the Asia Cup last year have helped us learn some of the finer points of the game. This will make a big difference at the World Cup.

Such tours also help us assess our strengths and weaknesses. Moreover, they enhanced co-ordination between players. What do you feel about the captaincy?

It’s a big responsibility But every player has to shoulder it.

Our sole mission is to win the coveted trophy for India. Are you satisfied with your own preparations for the World Cup?

Perhaps, people are satisfied with my performance, but I still feel the need to do a lot more to win the World Cup. Your expectations from the team members… Not much. I want to win the World Cup, but it’s not possible without their support. Everyone has to play his part well.
