Pakistan sports minister Najamuddin Khan is doing an MS Gill. Just as his Indian counterpart had initiated the move to end KPS Gill’s reign in the Indian Hockey Federation, Khan has asked former Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali to step down as President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation following the team’s disappointing Olympics show. Pakistan finished a dismal eighth in Beijing and thereby failed to qualify for the next Champions Trophy. Former Pakistan captain and Olympian Mansoor Ahmed, meanwhile, has called for bringing in a foreign coach to stop the downslide of the game. Mansoor was the goalkeeper when Pakistan last won major titles including the Champions Trophy in Lahore and World Cup in Sydney in 1994.
