During his visit to India recently, Spaniard FIH President Leondro Negre said Pargat Singh has been taken into the Hockey India and he will play a big role in future of hockey. This was then a surprising statement as only recently Pargat Singh has castigated Suresh Kalmadi, the mover behind Hockey India.
We have reported this during the Commonwealth Games.
Now the Negre’s point has come totally true. Pargat Singh, who has contested unsuccessfully against Vidhya Stokes in the HI election, has been made Director (Technical) of Hockey India. He has been, as things stand now, given full powers to conduct the technical affairs of Indian hockey which includes conduct of domestic tournaments, coaches and selectors’ selection etc.
This development has occurred during the Annual General Meeting of Hockey India held today in New Delhi.
It is pertinent to note Hockey India has Jagbir Singh as Director Planning.
On the face of it, it seems the Hockey India administration will stick to administrative works leaving the technical aspects to Pargat Singh who will be forming his committee shortly.
