Dwyer finally gets his playing kit

After days of agonising wait, star Australian hockey player Jamie Dwyer finally received his playing kit which lost in transit in Singapore en route to Delhi for the Commonwealth Games. The two-time world player of the year landed in Delhi without his gears and was forced to practice with his teammates equipments for the last five days following which he shot off an SOS to his wife to send him a new kit.

“It has not been the best preparation for our first game against Scotland on Wednesday and the kit my wife sent over actually arrived before Qantas finally delivered my bag,” Dwyer was quoted as saying by the Australian Associated Press.

“I was getting a bit concerned because my sticks are specially made and in there was the one I used in the World Cup this year, and they are a certain weight and design,” he said.

“Using someone else’s is not great but what can you do? My gumshield, orthotics and boots were also in there, but fortunately adidas were on hand to provide me with something to wear,” Dwyer added.

The veteran Kookaburras’ striker also praised the much-criticised Commonwealth Games Village, which has been termed as “filthy and unliveable” by some participating nations, including Australia, in the run up to the Delhi event.

“It has been fine, much better than I thought it would be,” said Dwyer, who will be participating in his second Commonwealth Games.

“The place is clean and the food fantastic, and the atmosphere around the place is great,” he added.
