Bhopal, Rajasthan make it to the last eight

MUMBAI: Bhopal and Rajasthan qualified for the quarterfinals in the under-17 boys National Hockey Championship being played at the MHA Mahindra Stadium in Mumbai on Monday.

Bhopal defeated Kerala 4-2 and topped Group ‘B’ with six points as the fourth team in the pool, Haryana, were disqualified because 10 of their players were found overage after the organisers conducted medical tests.

Hyderabad were the other team in the group but were beaten by Bhopal.

Patiala trounced Puducherry 12-2 to pave the way for Rajasthan to qualify from group ‘D’. Patiala needed to win by 16-goal margin to edge out Rajasthan, but the Puducherry boys denied them a berth.

In another match, Chattisgarh – who had already made it to the quarters – defeated Goa 5-2 in Group ‘C’ after the latter led 2-0.

Results:

Bhopal 4(Shahnawaz Khan, Nadeem Uddin 2, Shahbaz Uddin) beat Kerala 2 (Sarabin S, Sreekumar MB ).

Patiala 12 ( Ripudaman Singh Toor 2, Kulbir Singh 2, Pushpinder Pal Singh 4, Shaminder Singh 3, Jaspinder Singh) beat Puducherry 2 ( John Bosco 2).

Chattisgarh 5 (Rahul Rajak 3, Raja Khan , Sumit Patle) beat Goa 2 (Noor Chowdhary, Raju Motilal Rathod).
