IOC, BPCL make it to the semi-finals

BHOPAL: Riding on skipper Deepak Thakur’s brace, IOC drubbed Railways 4-1 to enter the 65th All-India Obaidullah Khan Gold Cup Hockey tournament.

In another quarter-final played at Aish Bagh stadium here last evening, BPCL overcame Namdhari XI 3-1 to complete the semi-final line-up.

Earlier, Air India and ONGC had made it to the semis with resounding victories.

IOC opened their account in the 17th minute of the game through their captain, with B R Ravinath making it 2-0 just seven minutes later.

Thakur then made it 3-0 before IOC rallied back to score through Mohd Aleem in the 57th minute of the match.

But Roshan Singh’s goal in the 62nd minute sealed the IOC’s fate.

In the second quarter-final match of the day, BPCL rallied on a solid team performance to edge past Namdhari XI.

For BPCL, Gurpreet Singh struck the initial goal through a penalty corner in the 13th minute of the game.

Twenty minutes later Amar Ayyamma made it 2-0 before Sher Singh netted another one in 44th minute.

Though, Namdhari XI struck one past the BPCL goalkeeper in the 47th minute through Hapreet but that was not enough for his side to save the match.
