Results of IHF Elections Announced

The result of the 2005 now suspended IHF elections, which were held back as per a Delhi High Court directive, were announced in Kolkata on Tuesday by the Bengal Hockey Association Secretary Gurbux Singh. Singh who had been appointed chief electoral officer during the polls, declared the results at a press conference at his office.

“I was asked to declare it so I did ti, relieving myself of my duty. The sealed envelope was lying unopened and today I got a fax from the IHF to declare it in front of witnesses,”, Gurbux said.

The results of the IHF elections were held back after J&K Association president NK Batra contesting against KPS GIll challenged that the supercop was not eligible as he had occupied the post for more than eight years.

On Monday, the Delhi High Court issued a directive to the IHF to announce the results.

Gill was a runaway winner with 32 votes out of 36. His rival Batra managed to get only four votes. K. Hothikuamrn was re-elected secretary wining over Batra by a 33-3 margin, while JN Tyagi was elected unopposed as treasurer.

s2h Note: This is an academic exercise, as the IHF has been dissolved subsequently. And also the tenure of those elected will be complete in a couple of months’ time,a s the Court’s judgment came very late.
