School Hockey: DPS Six a side Tournament

To popularize hockey at the school level, – Indian Hockey Federation
today announced India’s first six a side hockey tournament for
schools. Sponsored by Asia’s largest Book showroom, Delhi Book
Store, the cup is officially christened as DBS Cup. Since this is a
pilot project, it will be played over two days, on May 3rd and 4th
2007 at Delhi Public School, R K Puram.

The objective of this unique event is to promote hockey at school
level and introduce ‘fun element’ in hockey to school kids. To make
the session interesting, some suggestions from FIH, has been
incorporated. The games will be played for a duration of 20 minutes,
each half consisting of ten minutes. Mr Kukoo Walia, International
Hockey Umpire, would be tournament director.

A special two day Hockey clinic and interactive session by Indian ace
goal keeper – Mr Adrian D’souza will be conducted at the venue.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. KPS Gill, President of Indian Hockey
Federation said. “IHF is happy to associate with this unique project
aimed at creating interest at the school level. We recognize this
tournament and provide our full support for its success”. Mr Vijay
Ahuja, Director of Delhi Book Store said, “Hockey draws an emotional
connect with Indians across the globe and this is our endavour to
spread awareness about the wonderful game which had bought laurels to
India”.

The entire project is created and conceptulised by SCORE, Indias first sports development company.
