Shivender Singh gets Vikram Award

Star Hockey forward Shivendra Singh received Madhya Pradesh’ highest sporting honour, Vikram Award from the Governor of the State, Rameshwar Thakur in a colourful ceremony

held in the forenoon on the National Sports Day at Ravindra Bhawan, Bhopal. He was given a cheque of Rs 50000/-, a Scroll and a Trophy. Apart from Shivendra Singh, nine other sportsmen were also honoured with Vikram award, 15 upcoming sportsmen with Eklavya Award, three coaches with Vishwamitra Award and one sportsperson with Lifetime Achievement Award.

On this occasion, MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Sport Minister Tukojirao Pawar, local MP Kailash Joshi, MP Olympic Association’s Presedent Ramesh Mendola and many more respectful personalities were present in the Ravindra Bhawan. Girdhari Lal Yadav, who is one of the recipients of the Arjuna Award this year, was also present as a special guest. He was also honoured by the Governor and presented with a cheque of Rs 100000/- and a Trophy.

Speaking on the occasion MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan announced that from this year the name of Lifetime Achievement Award would be on the name of Roop Singh, the legendry Hockey player and younger brother of Dhyan Chand.
