Etawah, 1 May 2016: On the final day of the Hockey India 6th Senior Men National Championship (B Division) Railways took on Punjab in the final.

In a frenetic encounter, the two teams were locked in a four-goal thriller at full time. Despite the flurry, it took until the second quarter of the match for the first goal to be scored as Punjab opened the scoring in the 24th minute via Vikramjit Singh. Railways responded with their equaliser after the break, as Amit Rohidas converted a PC in the 37th minute to draw them level.

In the final minute of the third quarter Punjab took the lead again, with a PC conversion of their own by Varun Kumar. With the title looking set to go to Punjab, Railways hit back with an equaliser in the 59th minute—a penalty stroke put away by Rohidas—to take the game to a shootout.

Even in the shootout, both teams were locked at 3-3 after their first five attempts. Punjab missed their decisive attempt in the sudden death to give Railways the victory and the title of National Champions.
